You have probably heard the buzz about Direct View LED recently, and for good reason. It is taking multiple industries by storm–including filmmaking and sportsbook–virtually changing the landscape in a very short period of time. If all of the hype is leaving you scratching your head, we’re here to break it down for you.

Direct View LED effectively eliminates the need for LCD displays, as the surface is made of a field of LEDs that act as pixels. The size of these pixels can vary, which creates the possibility of a very fine amount of detail rendered from a very small viewing distance. Direct View LEDs are also extremely bright and are able to be built in very large sizes, making them perfect for outdoor venues, casinos, cities, sports arenas, concert venues, and houses of worship! 

Due to their capability for fine detail, brightness, and expansive size, Direct View LED displays are known to create a more immersive experience for viewers and participants. In fact, many people recognize them as a production tool rising in popularity amongst high-budget filmmakers like Disney and HBO. Notably, Direct View LED screens replaced green screens on two incredibly popular shows, The Mandalorian on Disney+ and Our Flag Means Death on HBO Max, ushering in a new era in filmmaking. On these sets, Direct View LED singlehandedly eliminated the need for on-site shooting and expensive visual effects to make up for the downsides of using green screens.
